HistoryAn American Success Story
MDP Contracting is a true American success story. Mario Quintero, our president, left his native Honduras in 1988, at 18, and moved to United States, where he immediately went to work in his older brother's painting business. Mario learned basic painting and drywall repair techniques while he got a close-up look at how the contracting business works. Eight years later, Mario started the drywall installation company that is now MDP. From the outset, he continuously looked for ways to grow—and diversify—the business. Mario quickly added painting and wallpapering services, quadrupling the company's size in its first four years. By 2000, MDP had 15 employees and annual sales of $ 1.5 million. Rapidly Expanding Capabilities In 2003, MDP began offering metal framing, insulation and acoustical tile work in response to a general contractor's request. "They wanted us to provide the whole package," Mario said. "They liked the idea of dealing with one contractor whom they knew and trusted, rather than many." MDP expanded its services again the following year when a demolition crew on a renovation job inadvertently destroyed a large number of otherwise reusable partitions. Mario showed the general contractor the damage and landed his future demolition work on the spot, simply by pointing out that MDP's crews would have had no trouble identifying the salvageable materials. |
